========================================
Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of drums and percussion!
The first thing I want you to know is that I believe in teaching on REAL (acoustic) drums so the student can feel and hear what drums are to sound like as they learn. In fact, there is no way one can really learn drums on just pads alone. ( fine for practicing on at home, in the beginning stages, but best to have real drums in the near future for accurate playing and proper development of things like 'feel')
Even electric drums fall short of the true experience of an acoustic drum kit (although those can be nice for apartment dwellers and situations where you have close houses and wish to play late night). So that said, you will be playing on REAL acoustic drum kits in my student for all your lessons.
Lee's Drum Studio offers private drum lessons for all ages and has facilities for the youngest to the oldest student. We have multiple drum kits at the studio; set up for both the short and tall, beginners and advanced.
The following setups are available to students:
1. 5 pc LEFT HANDED single or double bass pedal kit ( yes I have a double pedal for leftys!)
2. 5 pc RIGHT HANDED single or double bass pedal kit
note: I have separate kits for the average to shorter students and one for TALL students !
3. Jr 5 pc kit for small children
4. solo snare drums
5. Wind and Chao gongs
6. Congos , Bongos, and various hand percussion
7. Bell kit aka Glockenspiel
* all drum kits have crash, ride, hats, and splash with additional Chinas and other crashes as needed. 5 pc refers to the standard drum kit with snare drum, 2 mounted toms, floor tom, and bass drum.
Check out pictures at bottom of this page on SLIDE SHOW to see the kits and some of the students in action. As well as myself. So no matter if you are LEFT or RIGHT handed, short or tall, young or old, I got you covered with adrum kit you can walk in and play in my studio.
==========================================================
I want to address a very specific topic that I get asked very often by students interested in learning drums. They want to know how long it will take to learn drums. This is an impossible question to give one specific answer to, but let me say some things about it.
The learning process is different for each person. Factors like how much time you practice each day, or week, will have a huge impact on how fast you learn anything. Also, some students excel at one aspect of drums, while having a tougher time with another area. If a student takes drums seriously, practices daily, and has a drum (or drum kit) at home to practice on, then the time it takes to learn and get good, will be shorter. But no one should think they can master drums or even be great on them in a couple months time.
Drums are no easier than other musical instruments. In fact, some find the drum kit to be harder. Remember, you have to coordinate two feet and two hands all at the same time, often doing completely different things. Math is involved and also a demanding ability to focus on what you are doing for long periods of time. Most of all, patience is a must!
Cut and dry...I care about each and every student I teach. I prepare custom lessons for each person. I will stay with you from the beginning to the end process . Read what some students and parents of students have to say about me.

"Hi Lee, I am having a lot of fun learning how to play drums! Obviously having never played before, I couldn't just sit down and start banging away without knowing timing and measures and all that good stuff. I really like what we have been doing lately with the fills and going right back to the beat, just like a real song. You are a good teacher and it's nice to know you care! Thanks, Kim "

you are a very terrific teacher."

"Hello Lee, We are having possible location changes (hopefully a house with room for a drum kit). I know Dylan really enjoys class and thanks for all your dedication to teaching him."

"So far all the lessons I have taken are very informative and interesting. Lee makes it easy to understand and a joy to learn. I'd recommend him to anyone I know. He is very knowledgable about drumming and everything that has to do with it. I would consider him an expert on the subject and that is who I want to learn drums from. I found it much better to take lessons from a local experienced drum teacher in person than mystery teachers online and books."

"Lee, it was a good choice to take from a drum teacher one on one, because you have shown me so many different ways to look at the same beat or drum fill. After trying to learn on my own with some help from videos, I came away feeling lost. They showed one way and I can only praise you for being able to get me seeing things much clearer now. I want to thank you sincerely for caring and spending so much time with me on the things I have trouble with. I look forward to more lessons from you. Now my wife doesn't think I am crazy to have wanted to learn drums at age 32. *laugh*

"The drum lessons have all been thorough, informative and easy to understand. I have yet to leave a lesson confused or unsure of what I was supposed to take away from it, and I feel that virtually every week I have learned something new that I can incorporate into my playing. I definitely would recommend Lee Henderson to someone else for drum lessons. I can tell a noticeable improvement in my playing, and I haven't been taking the lessons (or even owned this kit) for a year yet. I feel like in this relatively short time, I've really become a much better drummer than I ever could have without the lessons."
Ian Nelson - Shoreline, WA Aug 30, 2009

"Lee, Charlie was soooo proud when he got in the car last night.....he kept talking about what he learned at his drum lesson and wanted to demonstrate it as soon as he got home! He is having a fabulous time!"

"Lee is awesome! At 38 years old, I got an urge to play the drums, and Lee has made that a reality. Not quite giggin' yet, but after about 3 months time, already keeping time for my son, who plays guitar, and jamming with friends. The first thing that struck me when I called Lee was his obvious passion for the drums, he truly loves what he does. I have a difficult schedule, and he was more than willing to work with me on that, to find a suitable time for everyone. His lessons were challenging, but clear, a lot of fun, and everything made sense when all was brought together; it just flowed. Thanks Lee!"
Todd Burkham - Camano Island, WA May 14 2009

"Lee, I want to thank you for the time you take to usher me through the many dimensions of drum playing. I appreciate the way you allow me to view your ideas and explore them. I feel I have improved 100% just in the last 3 months since signing on with you in December. It's a pleasure learning drums from you. I tried the round tip sticks you recommended and love them! See you Tues dude!"
Brady Phillips - Lynnwood, WA - Feb 2009

"We highly recommend Lee Henderson to anyone who wants to learn to play the drums! He takes his job seriously as a teacher, yet incorporates fun activities so the students gain knowledge, while having lots of fun! Lee plans lessons so that students are ensured to progress over time, learning more and more challenging material. The other thing we love about Lee, besides his talents as an incredible drummer and teacher, is that he takes a special interest in each student. Two Christmas's ago, Lee knew I wanted to give my daughter ( then 10 years old ) a drumset. He recommended and helped me purchase a high quality drumset at a very good sale price. When we got the set, he gave us tips on setup and I brought a few of the drums in for him to tune. He is a full service professional that invests highly in his students - and it shows. We love Lee!"
Maria Fuller - Edmonds, WA - December 2008

"Future Students, my son has taken lessons from Lee for 2 1/2 years now. He has grown into a more confident, patient, and creative drummer. Lee is so patient with my son and always very encouraging. My son always looks forward to his weekly lesson. We are scheduled accordingly to our convenience and Lee is very accomodating to changes. I would recommend Lee to any level drummer who wants a knowlegeable teacher."
Julie Suhara - Edmonds, WA - December 2008

"Lee, you are an excellent quality teacher. You truly care about your students. My son Tyler came to you with absolutey no music experience, and you were more than willing to take him on as a student. Tyler has learned so much from you. We can't even begin to Thank You enough. You truly listen to the parents and students and are willing to teach exactly what the student is looking for."
Michele M. Hooper - Mukilteo, WA - November 2008

"Lee, Thank You so much for being my teacher. I was really nervous about starting drum lessons because I had no experience. From the very beginning you made me feel very comfortable, and quickly the nervousness went away. I was always excited to go to drum lessons and see what new skills you had to teach me. I have learned so much from you in such a short time. Thanks for eveything."
Tyler Hooper - Mukilteo, WA - November 2008

"Lee, I can honestly say that you really brought out the inner drummer in Matthew. He had a former music teacher at school that said he had zero musical ability. You connected with him. He became so good that he seldom practices or hands in practice sheets to his band teacher and still gets a B +. He recently played circles around a fellow drummer in a band concert. Drumming is now effortless for him and he takes it for granted. You are an excellent teacher and I heartily recommend you to any parent wanting their kid to develop as a drummer."
Doug Middleton- Shoreline, WA - November 2008

"Mr. Henderson has made everything he taught easy for me to understand. I learned really fast. Thank you very much!"
Misha Lee - Lynnwood, WA - August 2008

"Lee, Just a note to let you know Sean made it in the band. He ended up placing third in the tryouts. The two boys who passed him have been playing for years. For a boy who did not know how to hold sticks until June, we are proud. Thank you for all your work."
Brenda Northrop - Everett, WA - October 2006

You won't find a drum teacher who puts more time into just YOU, and your level, your potential, and your outcome, than ME!
For those who do not care for the actual music theory approach, do not fear. I teach the mechanics as well. I thrive in the play by ear, as well as the book. And I have always felt both were a nice blend for any musician to have. THAT SAID... on to my info!
Both single bass and double bass drum pedals are provided along with multiple cymbals and percussion ( including congos, bongos, hand drums, frame drums, gongs, dumbek, bells, etc ).
Take classes just for snare drum or the whole drum kit. Whether you wish to try out for a school band, or want to play in a rock band, jazz band, or any other type band; come see me and let's see how easy it is to get you there. I'm Lee Henderson and I chose to become a drum teacher after playing snare, drumkit, and percussion for over 40 years! I enjoy passing on the skills and information to students so give me a call ! Check out my other links from this page up top for more information about me and the studio. Thank you.
Below on the Slide Show, are some pictures of me and several of my former and present students in classes. Take a look !
